The MacKenzie Scott donation bonanza continues with announcements this past week that the billionaire philanthropist has donated a total of $276 million to three more Historically Black Colleges and Universities — Bowie State University, North Carolina A&T, and Prarie View A&M, Norfolk State University, and Winston-Salem State University.
Bowie State University announced it had received a $50 million donation from Scott, making it the largest single contribution in the university’s 160-year history. She had previously given $25 million to Bowie State in 2020.
As part of the university’s announcement, Dr. Aminta H. Breaux, president of Bowie State, said that Scott’s generosity "arrives at a pivotal moment in our 160-year story. It empowers us to expand access, elevate our research and academic excellence, and uplift generations of students who will lead, serve and innovate. Higher education is the pathway to upward social mobility for our students and the communities we serve, and, with this gift, their futures are brighter than ever.”
