'Emily, 2024.'

The flash of a tooth, the surprise of an open mouth, the ripple of red hair, an angular profile... Faces have always fascinated photographer Jack Davison. But two years ago, the 35-year-old Londoner realized he had neglected this side of his artistic practice.

"At the end of every year, I put together a sort of printed journal of 12 months of work, a bit like a school report, to take stock of what worked and the projects I want to continue – or not," he recalled. "That's how I realized I missed portraiture." He decided to remedy that. "I set myself a rather ambitious challenge: to try to persuade 111 people to sit in front of my camera over three days."

Between November 14 and 16, 2024, he embarked on this adventure with casting director Coco Wu. Together, they roamed the streets of London, letting themselves be surprised by passersby. "I knew the quality of Coco's eye – the people she discovers always have a real strength of character, an intensity about them."
