NETFLIX – ON DEMAND – MINISERIES

Let's admit it: any opportunity to see Claire Danes – the unforgettable Angela from My So-Called Life – is a good one. Even better that she's joined here by Matthew Rhys, who has endeared himself to viewers from The Americans to Perry Mason. These names alone set high expectations for The Beast in Me, all the more so as the series, created by writer Gabe Rotter (with Howard Gordon, formerly of Homeland, as showrunner), takes the shape of a literary thriller with comforting motifs – ideal for November evenings.

Aggie Wiggs (Claire Danes) is a famous journalist and author suffering from writer's block, living reclusively in a large house at the edge of a forest since the accidental death of her son and the collapse of her marriage. Moving in next door is a real estate mogul who is equally well known – but for different reasons. The immensely wealthy Niles Jarvis (Matthew Rhys) is suspected of having made his first wife disappear several years earlier. Jostled out of her lethargy by the arrival of the flashy couple – Niles and his new wife, the blonde and polished Nina (Brittany Snow) – Aggie senses in Niles's troubled personality and past a potential subject for investigation and writing.
