There's plenty of buzz about an amateur with a famous last name making her LPGA debut at this year's The Annika and all the anticipation and fanfare led to some early nerves and jitters for 18-year-old Kai Trump.
Trump, one of three sponsor's invites, shot a 13-over 83 in the first round of the annual tournament at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida on Thursday, leaving a lot of ground to make up on Friday if the amateur wanted to make the cut and extend her debut into the weekend.
Trump said she "feels better" heading into the second round of the tournament on Friday, admitting that "think the nerves have calmed down a little." In an interview with Golf Channel, Trump said, "There's a lot of pressure obviously, but I've been having a good time... Yesterday was a little scary, but today I feel more relaxed. I feel like I'm ready to do this."
The eldest granddaughter of U.S. President Donald Trump showed improvement and finished with a 5-over 75, eight strokes better than her opening round on Thursday. Trump will miss the cut as she sits at 18-over and in last place, but the high school senior said the experience will only make her a better golfer. Trump committed to the University of Miami on Wednesday.
