Four days after the bomb blast near Red Fort, which claimed 13 lives, the India International Trade Fair at Bharat Mandapam kicked off on Friday amid heightened security in and around the complex.
Given the expected footfall of nearly 60,000 daily visitors at the 14-day annual fair, which concludes on November 27, the police have implemented multi-layered security checks, upgraded surveillance, enforced traffic restrictions around the venue, and deployed additional personnel, a senior officer said.
“We have conducted anti-sabotage checks and also pressed Quick Reaction Teams and K-9 dog squads into service to closely monitor the area, while expanding the area under CCTV surveillance,” the officer said.
Traffic diversions and parking restrictions will remain in force throughout the fair. Visitors have been advised to use public transport, the officer added.
