Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Wicked actress Michelle Yeoh is set to receive the Honorary Golden Bear during the Berlin International Film Festival's opening ceremony.

Recipients, who have also included Helen Mirren, Martin Scorsese, Meryl Streep, Steven Spielberg and Tilda Swinton, are chosen for their enduring impact on the film industry, a press release states.

"Michelle Yeoh is a visionary artist and performer whose work defies boundaries -- whether geographic, linguistic or cinematic," director Tricia Tuttle said in a statement. "Her commanding presence, fearless artistic choices and unmistakable style have left a lasting impression on generations of filmmakers and fans at the Berlinale and across the globe."

Yeoh's popularity skyrocketed after she starred in the 1997 film Tomorrow Never Dies.
