President Donald Trump bragged about the golden makeover he has given the Oval Office during an interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham, which aired on Monday. And the president’s critics called him out over it. “You can’t imitate gold, real gold,” Trump boasted as he showed off the shiny new additions to the Oval Office. “There’s no paint that imitates gold.” “So these aren’t like from Home Depot or something?” Ingraham asked.“No, this is not Home Depot stuff,” Trump said. “This is not Home Depot.” Ingraham was alluding to claims made online earlier this year, as the decor began to appear in the Oval Office, when a number of people noticed that at least some of the new embellishments were pretty much a perfect match for an item sold at Home Depot. “Inside Edition” found an interior designer who said metallic spray paint on those off-the-shelf items could achieve the look Trump is bragging about. Others, however, say that look could also indicate the real deal. Washington Post architecture critic Philip Kennicott described the process in August. It’s not clear how much the makeover cost, but Trump has insisted that taxpayer funds weren’t used. But it comes as the prices for many essentials continue to climb ― and after Trump, during the shutdown, fought to block food aid benefits from reaching low-income Americans. They fired back on X: While the country scrapes by on empty promises, Trump's turning the Oval Office into a gaudy gold-plated shrine to his ego, because nothing says "America First" like Marie Antoinette's budget for moldings.— Richard Angwin (@RichardAngwin) November 11, 2025Close
