Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-N.J.) warned Sunday the GOP will “get killed” in the 2026 midterm elections if they don’t take voters’ health care concerns seriously.
Van Drew, who quit the Democratic Party in 2019 following the first impeachment of President Donald Trump, told Fox Business’ Maria Bartiromo that he hopes Republicans will have “within a year” a “good, solid, thorough replacement” for the Affordable Care Act, which he called “terrible” and merely the public subsidization of insurance companies.
“But in the short term, people are getting their renewal notices. Their premiums are doubling,” he acknowledged.
“We need to deal with that now,” Van Drew continued. “Number one, it’s the right thing to do, just morally. And number two, we’re going to get killed.”
“It’s about winning. We have to win the midterms,” he added. “It’s going to be a hell of a hard thing to do, and if people are just struggling with their health care, it’s not going to help us.”
