Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Comedian Pete Davidson has returned for the "Weekend Update" segment of Saturday Night Live.

He joked with Colin Jost about their ill-fated purchase of a decommissioned Staten Island ferry, the election of Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani as mayor of New York City and the anticipated retirement of 80-year-old SNL boss Lorne Michaels.

"In case you're wondering why I had to do a show in Saudi Arabia, we're losing millions on this ferry. I assume that's what the article says," Davidson said, referring to a recent New York Times newspaper piece titled, "Colin Jost, Pete Davidson and the Staten Island Ferry Fiasco."

"I can't spend $5 on a paywall when I have a kid on the way," he added. "I'm just excited to be a dad and give it all the energy and enthusiasm I never had for this show."

The comedian also suggested conservatives unhappy with Mamdani's win, who have too many arrest warrants to move to New Jersey and not enough guns to relocate to Florida can move onto the ferry, which he thinks should be renamed "New Staten Island."
