President Donald Trump defended the economy Wednesday night on Fox News after being confronted by one of his supporters begging him to do something about the cost of living, which he denies is rising. “I want the Republicans to keep control of Congress in 2026, but something has to be done fast. I don’t see the best economy right now. Wall Street numbers do not reflect my main street money. Please do something, President Trump,” Regina Foley, a registered Republican who voted for Trump three times, wrote to Bret Baier’s “Special Report.”Trump, who campaigned on lowering the cost of groceries and called “affordability” a new word earlier in the interview, rejected his supporter’s remarks, claiming, “We’ve got prices way down.”“I do say this. Beef we have to get down. I think of groceries. It’s an old-fashioned word, but it’s a beautiful word. Beef we have to get down, but we’ve got prices way down,” Trump said, further claiming that energy costs are also already down and “all-encompassing.”“Think of this, energy. [Foley] drives a car, probably, and her energy prices are way down, and energy is so all-encompassing, it’s so big that when energy comes down, everything comes down. Everything follows it,” he continued. While the national average cost for a gallon of regular gasoline has remained lower than last year, the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory found the average retail price of electricity has risen faster than inflation in 26 states in the past six months, according to The New York Times.President Donald Trump railed against Democrats when confronted about cost of living.ANDREW CABALLERO-REYNOLDS/AFP via Getty ImagesThe president told Baier that “the biggest problem” about cost and affordability “is Republicans don’t talk about it.” “They don’t talk about the word affordability, and the Democrats lie about it,” he said.A poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research published over the summer, found that a vast number of U.S adults are stressed about grocery costs. Last month, a Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos also found that most Americans are blaming Trump for rising prices. This comes at a time where the president’s disapproval rating is at an all-time high.“I do say to [Foley], first of all, I love her, because she voted for me three times, and I think she’d vote for me again if I had that opportunity,” Trump said.
