Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Seven New York City firefighters responding to a multi-car fire in the Bronx on Wednesday night were injured in an explosion, officials said.
Fire Chief John Esposito said in a statement that five of the injured suffered burns to the face and hands. Three of the injured were admitted to the hospital with burns considered serious but not not life-threatening.
"Our firefighters are awake, alert and speaking, but they have serious burns, and we'll be praying for them," he said.
The injured firefighters were receiving care at Jacobi Medical Center.
