In the wake of the gang-rape of a 20-year-old college student on a deserted area near Coimbatore airport, residents of the adjacent Brindhavan Nagar, where a few families helped the survivor after she escaped from the perpetrators, are planning to install more surveillance cameras.
Located close to the airport and Avinashi Road, Brindhavan Nagar is a populated residential area, where several police and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel are also residing.
“The crime that took place in the vacant land near our residential area was shocking to all of us. Safety of residents and people passing through the locality is paramount to us. The residents’ association will increase the number of road-facing surveillance cameras for the same,” said N. Subramanian, president of the association.
