MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell on Monday reminded his viewers that they “are not alone” in frustration at President Donald Trump, citing numerous polls confirming that his disapproval rating is the highest it’s ever been during his ongoing second term in office.The “Last Word” host began with a CNN survey showing that 63% of 1,245 U.S. adults polled last week disapproved of the president, noting this is 1% higher than the figure in his second week after the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection in Washington, D.C.O’Donnell then cited another part of the poll showing 61% disapprove of Trump’s handling of the ongoing government shutdown, which began last month amid a standoff between Democrats and Republicans over measures aimed at protecting health insurance.He further cited an ABC News poll showing 67% of 2,725 American adults feel the country is moving in the wrong direction under Trump, who has enacted mass deportations, defied federal judges and bombed merely suspected drug-runners in foreign waters.“That is a powerful polling result in a country that usually has significant differences between urban, suburban and rural areas, and significant differences in polling among varying levels of education and income,” O’Donnell noted Monday.“But majorities of Americans in all of those categories believe the country is moving in the wrong direction,” he continued. “So you are not alone, no matter where you live in this country, if you think Donald Trump is moving the country in the wrong direction.”O’Donnell went on to add that in only 288 days of his second term, “Donald Trump has managed to unify the country in disapproval of him,” and that “more than half of the country” disapproves of his immigration, crime and foreign policy relations with Israel.Trump launched mass deportations in January and has since had masked immigration agents snatch civilians off the street. He’s also continued giving military aid to Israel despite accusations of war crimes against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.O’Donnell explained that the president’s other policies are just as unpopular.“The ABC News poll shows majorities of Americans also disapprove of how Trump is handling every issue measured in the poll,” he said. “Over six in 10 disapprove of how Trump is handling the tariffs, the economy and managing the federal government.”O’Donnell then stated squarely that Trump has had “record high disapproval” ratings, only to brag otherwise on social media, calling the refusal to face facts “a classic Trump lie,” and noted that he and his family have been making a fortune in the cryptocurrency business.Trump recently pardoned cryptocurrency billionaire Changpeng Zhao, who pleaded guilty in 2024 to money laundering, and had invested $2 billion in the World Liberty Financial firm, in which Trump and his immediate family have a stake.“Donald Trump is losing the American people on every single issue,” said O’Donnell.“Donald Trump knows who makes money for him,” he later added. “Donald Trump knows who gives him money. What the new polls show us is that it’s not working. The Trump method is not working.
