Bruce Willis’ wife, Emma Heming Willis, doesn’t shy away from discussing the backlash she receives as a caretaker. The model has been open about decisions she’s made for her actor husband since sharing his aphasia diagnosis in 2022. Willis was later diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in 2023.“The criticism and the judgment that people receive is off the charts,” Heming Willis said during an appearance on NewsNation’s “Elizabeth Vargas Reports” on Tuesday. “But I wanted to be very transparent.” Heming Willis said her choice to move her husband into a separate home with his caregivers was “the hardest decision” she’s had to make, explaining that it “didn’t come lightly.” “We have young children in our house, and I needed to make the best and safest decision for my husband as well as our children,” she shared, explaining that “Bruce wouldn’t want our children’s lives to be clouded by his diagnosis.” Willis and Heming Willis have two daughters together: Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11. The “Armageddon” star also has three daughters with his ex-wife, actor Demi Moore: Rumer, 37; Scout, 34; and Tallulah, 31.From left: Rumer Willis, Demi Moore, Bruce Willis, Scout Willis, Emma Heming Willis and Tallulah Willis attend Demi Moore's “Inside Out” book party in September 2019.Stefanie Keenan via Getty ImagesHeming Willis recently wrote a book, “The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope, and Yourself on the Caregiving Path,” about her experience in caring for her husband. In it, she offers other caregivers a road map for when they face similar criticism.“Everyone will have an opinion, but you have to remind yourself that most don’t have the experience to back it up,” she says in a passage from her book. “And if that’s the case, they shouldn’t offer their two cents about it, and you shouldn’t pay them any mind.” Heming Willis has received support in her journey from Willis’ ex-wife, who recently praised her efforts. “There’s no way that anybody could have anticipated where this was going to go, and I really think she’s done a masterful job,” Moore said during an interview with Oprah Winfrey in September. “She has been so dedicated to forging the right path. She’s had equal amounts of fear and strength and courage in navigating this.” Close
