Over 17 children ‘held hostage’ in Mumbai’s Powai rescued; accused shot dead during rescue operation

As many as 19 persons including 17 teenage children, allegedly held hostage by a man inside a studio in Mumbai’s Powai area, were safely rescued by police and fire brigade teams on Thursday (October 30, 2025), an official said.

The accused man, identifed as Rohit Arya, was shot dead by the Mumbai Police as he continued to issue grave threat. He was taken to the hospital in a critical condition was declared dead at 5.15 p.m., the police said.
