Kerala’s Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan on Thursday (October 30, 2025) questioned the timing of the announcement of a set of welfare measures by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, saying these were aimed at “covering up the embarrassment” caused by the controversy over signing up for the PM SHRI project.

The Congress leader asked why it took four and a half years for the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) to increase social security pension to ₹2,000 per month though it had mentioned in its poll manifesto in 2021 that the amount would be hiked to ₹2,500 when it comes to power.
