The Election Department has begun preparations to conduct a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the Union Territory of Puducherry, with the Election Commission of India (ECI) directing that the exercise be held in 11 other States and UTs as well.
P. Jawahar, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), said in a press release that such an exercise was being undertaken in Puducherry after 24 years — the previous intensive revision was done with January 1, 2002, as the qualifying date — to ensure that the electoral rolls are accurate and error-free.
