Oct. 28 (UPI) -- A U.S. border patrol leader on Tuesday was in federal court to testify over alleged violations of a temporary restraining order on U.S. troop activity.
U.S. federal Judge Sara Ellis was critical of Gregory Bovino, a U.S. border commander, after video footage depicted Bovino throwing tear gas into a crowd in Little Village during a series of widening public demonstrations in the Chicago area and outside a federal detention facility in Broadview.
Ellis ordered Bovino to meet with her in person daily by 6 p.m. CDT to review all arrests during the so-called "Operation Midway Blitz" in the Trump administration's hardline immigration crackdown.
Ellis stated in court she was "not interested in Home Depot arrests" in her order to Bovino. It arrived after clergy members, media groups and protesters filed a suit alleging a "pattern of extreme brutality" intended to "silence the press" and American citizens.
