Donald Trump’s trade war with Canada is doing him no political favors domestically, CNN’s chief data analyst Harry Enten warned on Monday.

Enten highlighted growing opposition among Americans to Trump’s tariffs overall but said “picking a fight with Canada is just something totally different.”

Canada, he noted, is “far more popular” in the United States than Trump himself, citing a net favorability rating among Americans of +49 percentage points for Canada versus -10 for Trump.

“We’re talking about Canada coming out nearly 60 points ahead on the net popularity rating versus Donald Trump here in the United States,” Enten said.

“When you pick on Canada as a United States president, you are picking on a country that the American people adore, they adore Canada,” he continued. “Canada has always been a friend to the United States, at least during our lifetimes. And when you’re going after Canada, you are going against someone who is far more popular than you are, Donald Trump.”
