Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud has hinted at appointing MLAs as District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents.

Mr Goud, along with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, met All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary (organisation) K.C. Venugopal in New Delhi on Saturday, where discussions focused on finalising the names of DCC presidents.

During an informal interaction with the media there on Sunday, Mr.Goud said he was not fully aware that Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy’s wife and Kodad MLA N.Padmavathi Reddy had applied for the Suryapet DCC president post. However, he noted that Mr. Uttam Reddy’s family had been in politics for the past 30 years.

“Given their seniority, the party high command can consider Ms. Padmavathi for the DCC chief post,” he said, adding that some other efficient MLAs would also be offered the coveted posts. He stated that being an MLA is not an obstruction to becoming the DCC president. He, however, made it clear that new entrants cannot ask for posts for their family members.

Referring to the recent internal clashes among several ministers, the TPCC chief said that was a closed chapter for now but urged party leaders, including ministers and MLAs, to be cautious while making remarks.
