Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the Israeli parliament's move to annex the West Bank would threaten the peace process supported by the United States.

"That's not something we can be supportive of right now," Rubio said, as he prepared to leave for his visit to Israel.

The bill in the Knesset came from far-right politicians who symbolically gave preliminary approval to annex the region, which is claimed by the Palestinians and occupied by Israel.

"The West Bank is not going to be annexed by Israel," said Vice President JD Vance to reporters Wednesday. "The policy of the Trump administration is that the West Bank will not be annexed by Israel."
