A California woman was hit by a small airplane while walking in a park in Long Beach on Tuesday, according to officials.

The bizarre incident happened after the aircraft made an emergency landing on a soccer field at Heartwell Park, the Long Beach Fire Department said. The plane had been returning to Compton after stopping in French Valley, California.

“When units arrived, they found one small aircraft on its belly with broken landing gears. The plane’s fuselage was intact. When the plane landed, it collided with a pedestrian in the park,” the department wrote on Facebook.

The pilot, an elderly man, was removed from the aircraft by first responders. He was transported to a hospital by paramedics.

The woman in her 40s who was hit by the plane was also taken to a hospital. The unidentified pilot and pedestrian are both in moderate but stable condition, officials said.
