A Syndicate meeting of APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU) on Wednesday was adjourned due to lack of quorum. Government nominees, including senior bureaucrats, and Communist Party of India (Marxist) CPI(M) MLAs abstained from the meeting in protest against Vice-Chancellor in-charge K. Sivaprasad’s refusal to implement decisions made during the previous Syndicate meeting held last month. The Syndicate had then resolved to recommend the reappointment of the former Registrar A. Praveen and former Controller of Examinations Ananda Resmi R. However, the V-C claimed that the reappointments were not feasible since they had left service after the completion of their deputations. He added that no such appointments could be made without concurrence from Raj Bhavan. The statutory body was expected to deliberate on key issues, including the construction of a new administrative building, renewal of the contract for the university’s software systems, and various academic issues.
