President Donald Trump and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Monday announced a deal on rare earth minerals as China tightens control over its own supply.
But the day was not without some awkward and downright tense moments.
Former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd ― who once called Trump a “village idiot,” among other things ― is now ambassador to the United States and was also in the room.
Trump was apparently unaware until a reporter pointed it out.
“I don’t know anything about him,” Trump said. “If he said bad then maybe he’ll like to apologize.”
