An on-air dispute between CNN host Abby Phillip and resident Republican Scott Jennings extended to social media ― with Phillip calling her counterpart a liar on X.
The weekend tussle began after Jennings argued in favor of President Donald Trump’s airstrikes on vessels he alleged were carrying fentanyl to the U.S. from Venezuela. The legitimacy of the deadly attacks has been questioned by even prominent Republicans.
Phillip accused Trump and Jennings of exaggerating Venezuela’s role in smuggling fentanyl, citing stats indicating Mexico was by far the dominant supplier. She argued that Trump’s true motive was the overthrow of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro, a prospect that many Americans would approve of but the president would not admit, she said.
Jennings accused Phillip of downplaying Venezuela’s role in narco-trafficking.
Their disagreement spilled over onto X, formerly Twitter, on Saturday.
