The man who Maryland police say drove into a child's birthday party, killing one person and injuring 13 others, has turned himself in, officials said.
Criminal charges are pending against the driver, identified only as a 66-year-old man from Washington, D.C., the Bladensburg Police Department said in a statement.
Police said the hit-and-run occurred around 10:14 on Oct. 18 when the driver "struck several individuals that were gathered in front of a residence for a child's birthday party." The driver fled the scene on foot after plowing into the crowd.
Video shared on social media shows first responders at scene and a partially collapsed white tent on the lawn.
More than a dozen people, including eight children between one and 17 years old, were injured in the hit-and-run and one woman, 31-year-old Ashley Hernandez Guiterrez, was killed. Three of the victims are in stable condition, one is pending treatment and the rest have been released, according to police.
