The Coimbatore Corporation has set up temporary shelters at the Ukkadam bus stand, which was recently demolished to make way for the construction of Terminal II under the redevelopment plan.

The new bus stand will feature two terminals to manage traffic efficiently and improve commuter convenience.

Minister inaugurates ₹21.55-crore Ukkadam bus stand redevelopment works in Coimbatore

Officials said the move aims to ensure minimal disruption to daily operations and commuter services, especially during frequent rains and the extra rush during Deepavali. Plans to shift the bus stand were considered, but alternative sites were not available within the vicinity. The Corporation decided to continue operations at the same location and carry out redevelopment works in phases, part by part, to avoid disrupting bus services.

Authorities added that major construction works, including a food court and commercial complex, would be completed first, followed by the remaining works.
