The Hebbagodi Police have arrested a 25-year-old electrician who killed his wife and made it look like she died due to an electric shock on Wednesday.

However, his minor step-daughter’s statement led the police to suspect foul play, which they later corroborated with the post-mortem, a police official said.

Based on the evidence, the police arrested Prashanth Kumar, 25, an electrician and a resident of Maragondanahalli in Anekal, on charges of killing Reshma, 32.

According to the police, on October 15, Reshma’s daughter from her first marriage had found her lying unconscious in the bathroom. She and a few other neighbours took Reshma to the hospital, where the doctors declared her dead.

“When the deceased’s husband was questioned, he stated that while he was at home, his wife had gone to take a bath. He added that she had placed an electric heating rod in the bucket of water, and that she might have died due to an electric shock,” the police said in a statement.
