Condemning the continued arrests of Tamil Nadu fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy, All India Fisherman Congress national chairman S. Armstrong Fernando said that the Fishermen wing would organise a protest in front of the Sri Lankan Embassy in Chennai on October 27.

In a statement, he said that this year alone, the Sri Lankan Navy had confiscated more than 30 boats and arrested 180 fishermen. “Since the BJP government came to power in 2014, attacks on fishermen have increased manifold. In the last five years alone, cases have been filed against more than 200 boats. Of this, 150 boats have been nationalised by the Sri Lankan Navy. The wood and other parts are being sold in Jaffna,” he alleged.
