President Donald Trump appeared hesitant about sending Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine while meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy Friday at the White House, backing off his previous warnings that he could provide the weapons after speaking with Russian President Vladimir Putin a day earlier.
Trump said “hopefully we can get the war over without Tomahawks,” when asked by a reporter about the possibility of sending the weapons, adding that it would be a “problem” if the U.S. needed the weapons when they were in Ukraine’s possession: “we don’t want to be giving away things that we need to protect our country.”
Zelenskyy said Ukraine would be willing to exchange drones for the missiles.
