Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Social media giant Meta said Friday its unrolling new parental features for teen interactions with AI characters on its digital platforms.

Parents in coming months will be able to turn off teen chats with AI chatbots, block certain chats and monitor topics a teen prompts it to examine, according to Facebook and Instagram parent company Meta.

"We recognize parents already have a lot on their plates when it comes to navigating the internet safely with their teens, and we're committed to providing them with helpful tools and resources that make things simpler for them, especially as they think about new technology like AI," the company said in a blog post by Instagram chief Adam Mosseri and Meta AI's newly-appointed head Alexandr Wang.

According to the company, the control mechanisms will be unveiled early next year on Instagram.
