Perhaps it is under the toxic influence of the Trump administration that The Diplomat has evolved. Over its first two seasons, released in spring 2023 and fall 2024, the series created by Debora Cahn gave Keri Russell the role of Kate Wyler, US ambassador to the Court of Saint James (the official title for the US Ambassador to the United Kingdom), playing heavily on the contrast between rigid protocol and the brutality of international relations, which on screen led to spectacular attacks.
