Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Trinity Rodman injured her right leg just hours after she was called up to the U.S. national team, leading to an emotional exit during a Washington Spirit victory.
The 23-year-old forward sustained the injury and was replaced in the 41st minute of the 4-0 win over Monterrey in a CONCACAF W Championship Cup match Wednesday in Washington, D.C. She was seen in a knee brace and crutches after the game.
Spirit coach Adrian Gonzalez told reporters that Rodman will undergo tests Thursday to determine the extent of the injury. Just hours earlier, she was among those named to United States Women's National Team coach Emma Haye's 26-player roster for three upcoming friendlies.
Rosemonde Kouassi logged a goal and assist in Wednesday's win. Croix Bethune and Gift Monday also scored for the Sprit. Valeria Del Campo scored an own goal in the 67 minute for the final score of the match. The Spirit outshot Monterrey 17-3, including a 6-1 edge in shots on goal.
