Oct. 16 (UPI) -- The town of Amherst, Nova Scotia, is teaming up with a local animal shelter to elect the town's first-ever four-legged "pet mayor" into office.
Amherst and the Lillian Allbon Animal Shelter announced the top 10 candidates from a field submitted by local residents, and the public can now vote on the shelter's website for their preferred pet mayor.
It costs CA$5 -- $3.56 in U.S. currency -- to vote, and the proceeds go toward the care of animals currently at the shelter.
