Rep. Dave Taylor (R-Ohio) said Wednesday he’s working with Capitol Police to investigate a swastika image found on display in his Washington, D.C., office.
The image, seen on a virtual work call behind the desk of his staffers, was obtained and confirmed by Politico earlier Wednesday after The Rooster, an Ohio politics newsletter, first shared it on social media.
“I am aware of an image that appears to depict a vile and deeply inappropriate symbol near an employee in my office,” Taylor said in a statement. “The content of that image does not reflect the values or standards of this office, my staff, or myself, and I condemn it in the strongest terms.”
Taylor added that he “immediately directed a thorough investigation alongside Capitol Police, which remains ongoing,” declining further comment until the probe is complete. Capitol Police did not return requests for comment.
The image, captured during a virtual meeting with Taylor staffer Angelo Elia, depicts an American flag with some of its stripes altered to form a swastika. It was pinned on a cubicle wall behind Elia, alongside a pocket Constitution, a congressional calendar and a few other papers.
