The Kolkata Police on Tuesday (October 14, 2025) arrested Rajdeep Roy, a student of a private engineering college in Kolkata, for allegedly raping his classmate in her rented apartment in East Kolkata’s Anandapur area.
Roy, who is in his 20s and was known to the survivor, has been remanded to police custody by a city court till October 22.
A high-ranking official of the Kolkata Police told The Hindu that the survivor, aged 20 and in second year at the same engineering college, had lodged the police complaint on October 8 at the Anandapur Police Station. She originally hails from the North 24 Parganas district and was staying in a rented apartment to attend college in Kolkata.
According to her complaint, the accused had come to her apartment on September 26 at around 7 in the evening and had allegedly forced her to consume alcoholic drinks. When she fell unconscious, Roy allegedly sexually assaulted the complainant.
According to police officials, Roy hails from Kolkata’s Santoshpur area and was hiding in his relative’s house in Sarsuna from where he was arrested on Tuesday.
