Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin inspected the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) at the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) headquarters, Ripon Buildings, on Wednesday (October 15, 2025), ahead of the onset of the Northeast monsoon.

According to a press release, he reviewed live visuals of traffic movement across 22 city underpasses and rainfall data displayed on large LED digital screens. He examined public complaints received through the 1913 helpline and social media platforms and reviewed the actions taken on them using the centre’s computer systems.

Mr. Udhayanidhi also inspected the flow of stormwater through various canals and checked the discharge of rainwater into the sea near Napier Bridge.

“Officials informed him that 1,436 motor pumps, including 150 of 100 HP capacity and 500 mounted on tractors, had been readied. Equipment such as two amphibians, three amphibian excavators, six robotic excavators, three mini amphibians, seven super sucker vehicles, and 15 tree-clearing lorries were also on standby,” the press release said.

Further, 1,217 km of stormwater drains had been constructed in the past four years, and 1,136 km of drains and 1,06,000 catchpits had been desilted. Relief centres had been arranged at 193 locations, with 150 community kitchens ready to supply food, according to the GCC. The release stated that 103 boats, including 36 owned by the Corporation, were kept ready for evacuation operations. About 22,000 corporation staff, including engineers, sanitary and field workers, were engaged in monsoon-related work.
