President Donald Trump on Monday traveled to the Middle East to promote his role in a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas, visiting Israel first as the country celebrated the release of all living hostages held in Gaza.
As part of his trip, Trump gave a lengthy address before the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, where he received a standing ovation.
“You’ve won,” he told lawmakers. “Now it is time to translate these victories against terrorists on the battlefield into the ultimate prize of peace and prosperity for the entire Middle East.”
Trump then headed to Egypt to co-host a summit on the future of Gaza attended by over 20 world leaders.
While the U.S. president told reporters the “war is over,” lasting peace will depend on a series of challenging decisions for Trump.
