Karnataka is planning to provide reservation for poor, meritorious students of Karnataka in the foreign universities to be established in the State.
The government has proposed this with Lancaster University of United Kingdom (U.K.), which announced to set up its campus in Bengaluru recently, and operations are likely to start from February, 2026, while admissions will begin from August/September, 2026.
Discussions held
“Discussions have been held regarding reserving seats for Karnataka students in foreign universities to be established in Karnataka. The universities have responded positively to our request. However, they have requested that the selected students should be given scholarships. We have agreed to this,” said Higher Education Minister M.C. Sudhakar, participating in the inauguration of the new academic building at Nrupatunga University on Tuesday.
Lancaster is the second foreign university to set up its campus in Karnataka. The University of Liverpool from U.K. has already signed an agreement with the Karnataka government to set up its campus at KWIN city. Even Imperial College of London has opened its research centre at the Bengaluru City University.
