Oddsmakers at Kalshi are now predicting the government shutdown could last over 35 days, which would make it the longest shutdown in U.S. history as it approaches its third week.

Monday, Oct. 13House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., in a press conference raised the alarm of the impending record, warning that the country was “barreling toward one of the longest shutdowns in American history.”

Monday, Oct. 13Kalshi’s forecast for the shutdown based on betting on its predictions market rose above 37 days, before falling slightly to 35.2—which would make it the longest government shutdown in history, breaking the record set during the first Trump administration in 2019 when a shutdown lasted 35 days.
