Justice R. Suresh Kumar, Judge, the Madras High Court and Acting Chairperson of the Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority, urged the youth to refrain from drug abuse and dedicate themselves to serving society with responsibility and integrity.
Speaking at a legal awareness programme in Pudukottai on Sunday evening under NALSA (JAGRITI - Justice Awareness for Grassroots Information and Transparency Initiative) Scheme, 2025, organised by the Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority, Justice Suresh Kumar said that drug addiction had spread across the country and there was a need to pay particular attention to curbing its prevalence in prisons, schools, and colleges.
He emphasised that young people should focus on their responsibilities and time management. “Do not depend on or follow anyone blindly. No one else can protect you — only your hard work will earn your food, livelihood, and a good future for your children,” he said.
Madras High Court Judges N. Senthilkumar, M. Dhandapani, A.D. Jagadish Chandira, and B. Pugalendhi spoke. District Collector M. Aruna, Superintendent of Police Abhishek Gupta, and Corporation Commissioner D. Narayanan were present.
The event began with a welcome address by District Legal Services Authority Secretary Balakrishnan and concluded with a vote of thanks by Principal District Judge and DLSA Chairperson K. Poorana Jeya Anand. Earlier, a massive tree plantation programme was held in which all the judges participated on the banks of Valanattu Kanmai (Taluk) at Alangudi taluk.
