As part of its bid to strengthen the political presence of the Catholic community in Kerala, the Catholic Congress, the official lay organisation of the Syro-Malabar Church, will launch a long march to the State capital on Monday.

The event, named the ‘Rights Protection March,’ will be flagged off in Kasaragod and will conclude in Thiruvananthapuram. The march, which will be led by Catholic Congress global president Rajeev Kochuparambil, will be inaugurated by Archbishop Joseph Pamplany. It will be flagged off by Bishop Legate Remigius Inchananiyil at Panathur, Kasaragod.

According to organisers, the march aims to draw attention to a range of public and community issues that have largely been ignored by political parties and governments. The journey will culminate with a sit-in at the Secretariat on October 24.

Prominent Syro-Malabar clergy, including Major Archbishop Rafael Thattil, archbishops Andrews Thazhath and Thomas Tharayil and other bishops will address participants at various points along the route. The march will also feature large public gatherings in towns such as Chittarikal, Peravoor, Mananthavady, Thiruvambadi, Mannarkad, Thrissur, Irinjalakuda, Kothamangalam, Kattappana, Kanjirappally, Pala, Kuttanad, Changanassery, and Thiruvananthapuram.
