CNN’s Abby Phillip and guests pushed back against the right-wing uproar over the upcoming Oct. 18 “No Kings” rally after House Speaker Mike Johnson labeled the protest criticizing President Donald Trump as a “Hate America rally.”
“They have a ‘Hate America’ rally that’s scheduled for Oct. 18 on the National Mall. It’s all the pro-Hamas wing and the, you know, the Antifa people, they’re all coming out,” Johnson said on Fox and Friends Friday.
The upcoming protests organized across the nation are intended to be a peaceful demonstration against Trump and his administration’s agenda, much like the ones that drew millions over the summer.
Johnson claims that the government will not be able to reopen “until after that rally, because they can’t face the rabid base.”
The organizers of the “No Kings” protest wrote in a statement, “Speaker Johnson is running out of excuses for keeping the government shut down.
