The West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (WBPCC) on Friday (October 10, 2025) constituted a special committee tasked with safeguarding the voting rights and citizenship of the people of the State, ahead of an impending Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the State’s electoral rolls.

According to Prosenjit Bose, the chairperson of the committee, the Special Committee to Safeguard the Right to Vote & Citizenship of the People of West Bengal will coordinate the party’s activities surrounding electoral rolls revision in West Bengal through the SIR as well as citizenship-related matters such as the National Register of Citizens and the Citizenship Amendment Act.

Additionally, a Congress delegation is likely to meet election officials in the State to demand modifications in the SIR process, Mr. Bose told The Hindu on Saturday. This follows the Congress calling for an all-party meeting at the State level before initiating the SIR in West Bengal.

“Our immediate challenge is to ensure that unjust exclusions of genuine electors as well as inclusion of fake voters is prevented during the SIR process in West Bengal. We appeal to the entire electorate of West Bengal — irrespective of their political inclination — to approach us freely with any grievance or requirement for assistance with regard to the SIR of electoral roll,” he said.
