Over three lakh Indian tourists visited Sri Lanka from January to September 2025, Ganesanathan Geathiswaran, deputy high commissioner, Sri Lanka Deputy High Commission in Chennai, said here on Friday.

Of the 17,25,494 tourists who visited Sri Lanka, 22% were from India.

Speaking on the sidelines of a roadshow, he said of the 3,75,292 lakh Indians who went to Sri Lanka, 33% were from Chennai. “After we announced visa-free entry, we are witnessing a further increase in the influx of tourists,” he added.

To bring in more tourists from southern India, the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau and the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau held roadshows in Madurai, Coimbatore, and Chennai.

C.K. Raja, chairman, the Travel Agents Federation of India Tamil Nadu Chapter, said a tour based on Ramayana trails had garnered a lot of interest from South Indians.
