The Mangaluru North police have arrested Syed Ibrahim Tangal, 55, a religious leader of Uppinangady, for his alleged social media post in support of the banned Popular Front of India.

The police registered a case against Tangal for his post on WhatsApp in support of PFI on Thursday. In the post, Tangal claimed to be a member of PFI and invited people to become a PFI member.

The police secured him from Urvastore on Thursday and produced before the 49th Additional City Civil and Sessions Court, the Special Court for NIA cases, in Bengaluru on Friday. The court remanded him in judicial custody, the police said.
