A police officer who took his own life after he became a father was 'overwhelmed' by the pressures of parenthood and a demanding job, an inquest has heard.
PC Charlie Mitchell of West Yorkshire Police was found dead at St Aidan's Nature Reserve in Leeds on June 22, the day after he was reported missing.
An inquest at Wakefield Coroner's Court heard today the 26-year-old, who had joined the force in 2022, had never previously self-harmed or been the subject of mental health concerns, but that he had been struggling with the responsibilities of being a father and his job on the frontline prior to his death.
Mr Mitchell had lived in Huddersfield until April this year, when he moved to Leeds with his partner, Brooklyn Smith, who also serves as an officer with West Yorkshire Police.
The couple welcomed a baby that same month.
