As the Ladakh administration and local bodies, including Leh Apex Body (LAB) held “peace talks”, in Leh on Thursday (October 9, 2025), mobile Internet services were restored in the evening after 15 days of suspension, in the wake of killings of four civilians and injuries to 90 others on September 24 over the issue of Statehood and Sixth Schedule status.

“We have restored the mobile Internet service,” Romil Singh Donk, Deputy Commissioner of Leh, told The Hindu.

The Leh administration’s move to restore mobile Internet services was made after “successful peace talks” between the Ladakh administration and leaders of religious outfits, civil society groups and political organisations of Leh. Top officials, including Director General of Police (DGP) Ladakh S.D. Singh Jamwal, attended the meeting.

The first such meeting since the violence erupted on September 24 was chaired by Ladakh Chief Secretary Pawan Kotwal. “The leadership of Leh was invited for the peace meeting. All the community leaders, including venerable rinpoches, leaders of the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and political parties attended the meeting where measures to restore complete normalcy in Leh after recent events were discussed,” Mr. Kotwal said.
