The revenue arrears of the Kerala government, as on March 31, 2024, stood at ₹24,462.50 crore, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has noted in the latest audit report on State finances tabled in the State Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
Overall, the arrears show a decrease over the previous fiscal.
Fourteen government departments account for the arrears, of which arrears to the tune of ₹6880.85 crore are over five years old.
“The arrears of revenue indicate delayed realisation of revenue due to the government. It deprives the government of potential revenue receipts and ultimately affects the revenue deficit,” the CAG report said.
The State Goods and Services Tax department tops the list with ₹13,559.46 crore of uncollected revenue, which is more or less the same as last year. The Finance department (arrears in interest receipts) accounted for ₹7,604.49 crore, followed by the Registration department which had an uncollected revenue of ₹723.53 crore.
