Oct. 9 (UPI) -- The Senate failed to pass a funding bill again Thursday, continuing the government shutdown.

The vote in the Senate for the Republican-backed bill was 54-45. The bill needs 60 votes to move forward.

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., voted against his party's bill again. Senators Catherine Cortez, D-Nev., and John Fetterman, D-Pa., broke with their party and voted for it. Angus King, I-Maine, also voted in favor of the temporary funding bill. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, missed the vote.

It was the seventh attempt at reopening the government, which has been shut down since Oct. 1.
